LETRS Volume 1 focuses heavily on the word recognition strands of Scarborough’s Reading
Rope (Scarborough, 2001). This session will provide a deep dive into the classroom application
of the evidence-aligned reading instruction practices from Volume 1. Participants will unpack the
LETRS Phonics and Word Reading survey and learn how to group students based on skill
deficits. This session will support educators with reviewing quality decodable texts and pairing
those texts with the general phonics lesson plan (appendix A) as well as the transfer to text
process. Participants will review phoneme articulation and learn how to incorporate this into any
phonics scope and sequence. Educators will leave with hand-on techniques to support
orthographic mapping during multimodal auditory drill practice. Participants will need to bring
LETRS Volume 1.
