WRESA is excited to announce that Brian Lies will be presenting on October 5, 2022 at Western Carolina University at Biltmore Park.   The workshop will cover the process of writing and illustrating a picture book from ideas through finished artwork, with a lot of emphasis on growth mindset-related concepts. “It’s really important to show students that growth and achievement are the result of a lot of hard work, not the easy product of some kind of genius.” Come and learn strategies to promote the power of descriptive details, and why they’re essential in our writing.  Get great ideas to revise rough drafts into stories.

About the Author/Illustrator:  Brian Lies grew up in Princeton, New Jersey.  He began drawing and painting at a young age.  After graduating from college, Mr. Lies moved to Boston and studied drawing and painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.  Since then he has had a career and has created almost thirty books.  “ The Rough Patch” received the 2019 Caldecott Honor Award.   Brian Lies loves to visit schools and encourage young children to write and follow their dreams.
