The Clay County Board of Education is seeking a superintendent to lead the school system as it continues chasing excellence in all of their educational pursuits. Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be licensed as a superintendent in North Carolina or be qualified to serve under the State Board of Education’s alternative guidelines. Central office and building-level experience are preferred. A doctorate degree or progress toward a doctorate is preferred but not required. A successful candidate will be required to live in Clay County.
A successful candidate must demonstrate ability and success in (1) effective educational leadership; (2) curriculum, instruction and technology; (3) goal setting, supervision and monitoring achievement; (4) building and fostering community partnerships and involvement; (5) administration and organization of strategic planning, budgeting, personnel and facility management; (6) strong communication skills; (7) procuring funding; (8) visibility and involvement in community activities; (9) leadership in maintaining safe and orderly school environment; (10) planning, funding and construction of school facilities; (11) decision making skills.
The Clay County Board of Education consists of five members elected to staggered four-year terms. The Clay County School System has approximately 180 employees and serves approximately 1300 students in Pre-K through 12th grades. The district operates one elementary, middle and high school with funding in place to construct a primary school. The district is known for its high academic achievement and competitive athletic/arts program. The district is also a one-to-one educational school district with an increased emphasis on STEM initiatives.
