Students are never too old for picture books. Many of the newest picture books are appropriate for students of any age. This session will introduce participants to some of the newest and most engaging picture books that can be used as read-alouds to engage readers and writers in each of the subject areas. A balanced reading and literature program requires that students experience a variety of literary forms and genres. Teaching strategies will be modeled for helping students gain independence in reading for aesthetic and personal response, for information, and for critical analysis and evaluation. Session will be led by Candie Sellers, Elementary Coordinator at WRESA.  Each participant will receive a collection of five picture books, as well as strategies to help meet the goals and objectives across the curriculum. (This is a good session for acquiring reading CEUs.)  If you have questions, contact Candie Sellers, at csellers@wresa.org or 828.774.5681, ext. 26.  Contact Hours: 5
