In NCTM’s 2014 publication, Principles to Actions: Ensuring Mathematical Success for All, eight teaching practices that strengthen the teaching and learning of mathematics for all students are defined. Join us as we take action with two of these practices: Implementing tasks that promote reasoning and problem solving and building procedural fluency from conceptual understanding. We will learn what a good task is and how to implement tasks to impact learning opportunities. Then we will explore how procedural fluency follows conceptual understanding built from these cognitively demanding tasks. Presenters: Meg McKee, Buncombe County Schools Math Coach and Kristine Schmitt, Buncombe County Schools Math Coach.  If you have questions, contact Candie Sellers, Elementary Coordinator at csellers@wresa.org or 828.774.5681, ext.26.
