Students and families in the crisis of poverty often struggle to communicate effectively in the school environment. Most educators communicate via print while those in poverty rely on oral communication. Dr. Donna M. Beegle grew up not knowing the words that her teachers used, or the examples they provided. Dr Beegle will give an insider view of communication differences along social class lines. She will also provide practical strategies for changing statistics and improving lives of our families in poverty in meaningful, repeatable, and systemic ways. With a focus on improving communication with parents and community, this session is applicable for administrators, social workers,  counselors and others partnering in the fight against poverty. If you have questions contact April Spencer aspencer@wresa.org or 828.774.5681, ext. 20.  Contact Hours: 5
