– Half Day Session  – Educators new or fairly new to EVAAS

  • This fast paced, half-day entry-level course covers school-, teacher-, and student-level data. Educators are guided through conceptual explanations of the statistical models and calculations used to generate reports. Participants learn to interpret patterns in the reports and to use data effectively to support informed decision making at the school and classroom level. We teach report concepts, then pause, and allow participants to examine their own school reports to gain personal insight and meaning. This coaching edition allows participants to interact with their own data and provides the ability to ask questions of EVAAS Support Specialists.

The Mountain Office Presents: Introduction to the Elementary NC Science Olympiad

Using Makey Makey to Target Invention Literacy

Join us for a day of exploration and invention using a device called a Makey, Makey. With the Makey Makey, students can make any conductive material act as the input device for a computer. Because it comes preprogrammed, students with no coding experience can use and learn to experiment with it as they start to learn coding. Capitalize on the maker movement in your classroom. Teachers joining us will be able to check out Makey, Makey kits to use in their classrooms. If you register before March 1, your registration fee includes a Makey Makey device. SAT Test Preparation Course

This course is designed to prepare students to take the SAT test. The SAT Test Prep Course takes a comprehensive look at the five sections of the SAT giving the student guided instruction and practice on all aspects of the test. It includes test-taking strategies, practice assessments with diagnostic data, video learning tools, review problems and a certificate of completion. Students will have email access to the instructors. The course is designed to be completed in a short amount of time in preparation for an upcoming SAT.

Poverty 101

In this session we will review the latest information on poverty and the vital role that teachers play. Our students living in poverty have different challenges and understanding what we can do to better assist them will be our focus. Teachers will leave with strategies that will help students thrive in their classrooms as well as the latest brain research that helps alleviate the miscommunication that surrounds communication in schools. We will discuss behaviors that impact classrooms, for children as well as adults. Student Led Conferences: Why are you not doing them?

For years’ parent teacher conferences have been the primary means of parent-teacher communication. We all know how traditional conference go–parents arrive and hear about their child’s progress or lack of. The conference often feels rushed, and parents leave feeling vaguely dissatisfied. It doesn’t have to be this way. This session will discuss the advantages of implementing Student-Led Conferences for teachers, students, and parents.  Students conducting Student-Led Conferences become more responsible for their own learning. Digital Portfolios will also be discussed and the most effective ways to use them in your classroom.  This session will help you learn how to start the process and fully implement successful Student-Led Conferences in your classroom. Mental Health Toolkit – Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is designed to teach teachers, school staff, health and human services workers, parents, family members, caregivers peers, neighbors, and other caring citizens how to help students of any age, but especially adolescents, who are experiencing a mental health, an addictions challenge, or are in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, provides an overview of prevalence and average age of onset for mental health issues, includes information about risk and protective factors, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders including AD/HD), and eating disorders.
