Writing Workshop – Let’s Get Started
This one hour module is getting familiar and reviewing Writer’s Workshop. This course will review the four components of Writer’s Workshop:

Interactive Read Aloud – Spread a Little Joy!
In the book: The Ramped -Up Read Aloud: What To Notice As You Turn The Page the author, Maria Walther says the following: Read Aloud = JOY ! I think we can all use a little JOY in our lives each and every day! An interactive read-aloud is a literacy experience whereby children actively engage in listening and talking about the text throughout the read aloud. It’s actually okay for children to interrupt the reading to share ideas, especially when viewing an illustrated text or picture book!

Brain Breaks for Instructional Assistants to Do with Students
Brain breaks are quick, whole-class activities that give students at any grade level opportunities to pause, move, and interact in safe, structured ways. Research shows that “Movement increases blood flow to the brain which stimulates engagement.” (R.Marzano, 2017) Brain breaks only take a few minutes yet quickly get students back on task. Canvas, North Carolina’s Learning Management System (LMS), is your place for one-stop learning and course management. Teachers will become familiar with the features of Canvas, such as the settings, notifications, and a variety of tools in building a course. Participants will learn how to create modules and a variety of items such as discussions, assignments, quizzes, and content pages. Participants will also learn how to develop rubrics to use while grading assignments in SpeedGrader. If you have Canvas and want to use it more effectively, this is the course for you!
This two-hour session will be a webinar to show you how to get started in Canvas. Participants can build in a Canvas course while getting ideas from the instructor and each other. This session will be recorded so participants can rewatch the demonstration.
